Obituary notice of Mr. Kwang Young Choi, Former Chief Executive Officer of KICB




 

We inform with a deep regret on a death of an outstanding banker and former Chief Executive Officer, the founder of one of the leading commercial banks of the Kyrgyz Republic, CJSC “Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank” (KICB), Mr. Kwang Young Choi. Mr. Choi passed away at the age of 75.

Mr. Kwang Young Choi was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of KICB on May 31, 2001, from the date of its establishment, and worked until December 31, 2019. From February 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022, he was an Advisor to the Board of Directors of KICB .

Mr. Kwang Young Choi was not only an excellent financier, but also an inspiring leader whose contribution to the development of the banking industry can’t be overestimated. He had been a Head of KICB for almost 20 years and, thanks to his knowledge and vast experience, he could turn it into one of the leading players in the financial market. Under his leadership, the Bank has become a symbol of reliability, innovation and customer focus.

Mr. Choi graduated from College of Commerce of Sogang University in Seoul, Korea. Mr. Choi had over 43 years of experience in the banking industry. He began his banking career at Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) and had worked there for almost 20 years, including offices in the United States and England. Mr. Choi founded and headed one of the leading banks in Uzbekistan - UzDaweoo Bank.

Mr. Choi had been awarded numerous awards, including a certificate of honor from the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for special services to the state.

Mr. Choi had trained more than one generation of financial workers in the Kyrgyz Republic, who are currently working with dignity in various sectors of the country's economy.

The staff of CJSC “Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank” shares the grief and bitterness of irreparable loss with his family and friends. His passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of many people, who had the honor to know, work and cooperate with him.
